For our anniversary weekend - we left after I was finished work on Friday and drove to Asheville, NC. Asheville is a few hours away from us and I'd been wanting to go check it out for a while. We had decided to stay at one hotel since it was dog friendly and we weren't sure if we had someone to watch our dog, Maggie. But then Andy's sister volunteered to help us out with the dog - we were so thankful for her dog-sitting for us! Especially since the hotel was horrible. It smelled like mold and the floor was damp among other things. We got in too late to do much about it....but we checked out and thankfully found another (much better!) hotel for the next two nights. We stayed through Labor day - nice to have our anniversary fall on a long weekend so often!
Asheville is a fun, artsy town that we walked around a little. Andy still couldn't do as much walking as we had hoped due to his hip and leg being weak. But the good thing was that he said that he wasn't in any pain from his hip...so getting there. We drove through the mountains a little and went to check out a gorgeous waterfall.
We also went to a brewery tour - they have a lot of local breweries in Asheville....and a lot of good beer. We went to a few fun restaurants, ran out and bought clearance swimsuits so we could go in the hot tub at the hotel, and relaxed. Not quite the same as the trip we took to Belgium for our anniversary last year - but it was nice and low key. We hadn't travelled much at all this year due to everything going on with jobs and Andy's surgery, so it was nice to at least go somewhere.
