4th of July in Germany....

On the 4th of July, Andy was happy to have the morning to sleep in and relax at home. In the afternoon, he didn't exactly have to work, but we were both asked to volunteer for the American Red Cross at the Baumholder 4th of July celebration. We volunteered from about 2:30-9pm, helping out at the table, serving water, and just walking around to help out if there were any emergencies - since we both are recently trained/certified in CPR and First Aid. We were then going to get them to the German Red Cross who were the ambulance responders for this event.

We had some fun too - got to walk around and see a watermelon eating contest, eat some bratwurst, and Andy even got me some German ice! Delicious. But the fireworks were really late here since it gets dark so much later...so Andy didn't want to stay for them since he had to work the next day.

We are thankful we got to celebrate our freedom! And thankful for a few other fun "freedoms" this week:
  • Andy is free to legally drive in Germany! He passed his driving test this week and now I don't have to do all the driving or get up early to take him to work.
  • Maggie - our dog - is free of a lot of shaggy hair! We found a great German groomer to take her to and she looks a lot better and is probably a lot cooler for the summer.
  • And I am feeling a lot more free in our house since I have knocked out more of the boxes this week and am even started to hang pictures on the walls.
Happy (belated) 4th of July!
