you capture - halloween & silence...

This week’s You Capture challenge had two parts: halloween and silence.  Interesting, right?  Well here is what I came up with…..
On Sunday, Oct. 31st, we weren’t home.  Our lights were out and we didn’t buy any candy.  But we weren’t really as Scroog-y as that sounds.  We were actually celebrating by bringing the holiday fun to people who weren’t able to get out that evening.  We spent our Sunday evening leading our American Red Cross youth group in a fun volunteer project – Reverse Trick-or-treating at Womack Military Hospital.
The youth dressed up in costumes and brought candy, popcorn, and punch to patients and staff at the hospital.  We all had a great time.  There was a 5 year old on the pediatric floor who was so happy to see everyone – she was so excited that the whole event was worth it just for her.  And the teens did an awesome job – they were enthusiastic and happy to serve.  We had a little after party for them to hang out and do a costume contest.

A not-so-great photo of the teens in the hospital hall.  I was trying not to zoom in on faces too much (because we have photo releases for Red Cross purposes, but I don’t like posting too much on my personal blog for their privacy)

Lots of candy.  That the youth donated and bundled up to give out.

And that was our Halloween.
I’m not a big fan of this particular holiday.
I never went trick-or-treating as a kid.
But this was a pretty good way to celebrate.
And this is my take on silence.
I was inspired by a Bible verse I recently read and loved.  The reminder not to settle for silence.
Unless the Lord had helped me, I would have soon settled in the silence of the grave.  I cried out, “I am slipping!” but your unfailing love, O Lord, supported me.  When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.
Ps. 94:17-19
I’m sure many of you will have very different takes on Halloween and Silence than I did this week!  I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with.  Check out the rest of the you capture photos on Beth’s blog here.
