saturday in the city...

On Saturday, I was feeling the need to be out and about.  Andy’s back has been bugging him all week, so I left him home to rest and ventured up to the triangle area on my own.  I like the little town we live in, but every now and then miss the big city-ness and need a good fix – even if I have to drive an hour to get there.  I decided to treat myself and get a pedicure in a little salon in Cary.  It was nice and relaxing.  There were three guys at the salon also getting pedicures.  They looked uncomfortable, but were being good sports for the wives/daughters with them who had I guess bought them pedicures for Father’s day.  Somehow I’m not thinking my dad would’ve enjoyed that as a gift.  But it was pretty funny to watch.

When I got finished, I saw a frozen custard place down the road that had been highly recommended by my friend, Ginny.  She said Goodberry’s was really good….so I decided that some of their custard would make a good lunch. It was delicious.

Then I went and ran a few errands to some of my favorite places.  I hit up several semi-annual sales at the mall, but I actually never made it to Target.  I went to Trader Joe’s and got some new spices and a few random things that sounded good. I got a basil plant - now I'm going to be throwing basil in lots of dishes this summer.

I went and spent a few hours at Joann Fabrics.  I know…..a little crazy….but we have no fabric stores in my town!  And Walmart recently got rid of all of their fabric so now when I get the urge to be crafty….I’m out of luck.  So I decided to stock up and plan out a few projects.  I got all of the fabric below and some patterns and odds and ends.

But my favorite purchase was this beautiful tiffany style lamp.  I found it at a really random antique mall that I had read about online.  It was called Thieves Market and it was pretty unique.  It was an interesting mix of true antiques, some junk, and a little of everything.  But they had great prices.  I’ve been wanting one of these lamps for years, and even thought about paying $100 for one that I liked once….but I just couldn’t talk myself into it.  This one however, I didn’t have to think twice about.  It was only $27.00!  I know its probably not the greatest quality, but I love the rose pattern and it works great in our living room.  So no matter what the real value of it is, it’s perfect for me.

It was a good, relaxing day.  I had such a good time that I wasn’t too upset with Andy for not doing the couple of things he told me that he would do on the car (which he made me not take even though it gets better gas milage).  Oh well.

Hope everyone else had a good weekend and a great Father’s day!  Happy Father’s day to my dad and to my father-in-law – both are amazing fathers and we are so blessed to have them in our lives.
